With Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ Dracula hibernating inside his coffin until news of a second series resurrects itself, and True Blood reaching its final fang filled conclusion at the end of season 7, could Showtime’s new bloody Victorian offering, Penny Dreadful, provide fans of brooding, horror infused TV with their next big fix? Starring former Hollywood golden boy, Josh Hartnett, alongside the sultry Eva Green, and everyone’s favourite 80’s Bond… James Bond, Timothy Dalton, the star power on show is evident, but Showtime is promising that some of fiction’s most infamous names will also be lurking in the shadows…

Some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.

Hopefully the promising and seemingly terrifying series will live up to the many debauched accolades of its fearful characters, alongside helping Hartnett to rediscover the spotlight after attempting to shake his heartthrob persona of old with mixed results over recent indie flick packed years. Penny Dreadful premieres Sunday, May 11th at 10PM ET/PT.
